Crackling and hissing in brazen display
of fiery resistance to the darkness that surrounds it.
Refusing to yield til the last of its flames
in a daunting glamour with its scarlet blankets.
Reaching avidly, spreading warmth,
as if breaking through the dark and chilly night.
Where its embers dance in lucid arrays-
skyward, as if going home to where the stars are bright.
